Recently added to our collection are two new books about the legendary zoologist, Jane Goodall.

Me… Jane is a picture book written and illustrated by Patrick McDonnell that shows a young Jane as she first starts to observe nature. With her stuffed chimpanzee in her hand, Jane dreams of living in Africa and helping animals. The backgrounds of each page show actual drawings and notes Jane did as a child. McDonnell takes information from Jane Goodall’s autobiography and creates a meaningful portrayal for our youngest readers.

The Watcher is a picture book biography written and illustrated by Jeanette Winter. The book follows Jane Goodall through her life from her childhood in London, to her years in the African forests, and, finally, continues to her crusade to save the chimpanzees. The biography portrays the tireless energy Goodall had towards her research and work to save the animals she loved.
Both books received starred editorial reviews and are a great way to celebrate those who help protect our world.
