Children's Author/Illustrator Grace Lin

Grace Lin author and illustrator of over fourteen picture books, two beginning readers and five novels including Newbery Honor Award for Where the Mountain Meets the Moon (2011) and an Intermediate Nutmeg Nominee for 2013 will visit the Gallery on Friday, October 12 at 4:00 PM. Ms. Lin will talk about how she  found her niche in life as a multicultural children's author and illustrator. She will share her writing and illustration process with the children. She, also, will talk about her new book Starry River of the Sky (2012), the sequel to Where the Mountain Meets the Moon.

Her first published book The Ugly Vegetables (1999) is the story about Chinese vegetables that she and her mother grew when she was a child.  It was quickly heralded as being an American Booksellers Association's "Pick of the List" and a Bank Street College Best Books of the Year.  The book was seen as representative of the underserved Asian-American experience. The book was nominated for the California Young Reader Children's Choice Award and named a Growing Good Kids Book Award Classic. That success led to her becoming a respected, published author and illustrator.

Ms. Lin is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design. Grace Lin lives in Somerville, MA.  Visit her website at www.gracelin.com/. There you can find additional information on her books and activities for children including crafts, Chinese lessons, coloring sheets and recipes.
