New Fiction for July
Every month the New Canaan Library adds more than a hundred new fiction titles for adults. Whether you enjoy historical fiction, romance, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, literary, or alternative fiction, the Library has many new choices for you. Get started by browsing our latest additions.
State of wonder -- Researcher Marina Singh is sent by her boss at Vogel, a drug manufacturer, to the jungles of Brazil following the death of a co-worker. It is there that the company is looking into a miracle drug based on a tree bark used by a native tribe. Upon her arrival, Marina must find out the circumstances of her colleague's death, as well as find out why work has slowed to a crawl on the drug. That means dealing with Annick Swenson, a determined researcher who Marina has a complicated relationship with.
English tea murder -- While on a girls getaway to London, Lucy Stone investigates the murder of their tour guide, Professor George Temple, who died mid-flight after suffering a supposed asthma attack.
South of Superior -- Moving to Michigan's Upper Peninsula to care for an aging family friend, Madeline Stone becomes involved in the lives of the small community and two octogenarian sisters who teach her valuable lessons about love and goodwill. A first novel.
Gap year -- Setting aside her rebellious dreams for the sake of her teenage daughter, lactation consultant Cam Lightsey is horrified when her daughter falls in love with a football player, turns secretive and loses interest in college, a situation that is further complicated by a reappearance by Cam's ex, a member of a celebrity cult.

Jamrach's menagerie -- Following an incident with an escaped tiger, nineteenth-century London street urchin Jaffy Brown goes to work for Mr. Charles Jamrach, the famed importer of exotic animals, alongside Tim, a good but sometimes spitefully competitive boy. Mr. Jamrach recruits the two boys to capture a fabled dragon during the course of a three-year whaling expedition to the Dutch East Indies. They succeed in catching the reptilian beast, but when the ship's whaling venture falls short of expectations, the crew begins to regard the dragon--seething with feral power in its cage--as bad luck.

Inheritance & other stories -- Collects previously published and new short works written under both of the writer's pseudonyms, with brief notes by the author prefacing every piece that offers insight into the story's origin. The first seven stories are written under the name Megan Lindholm and the last three are written under the name Robin Hobb.
Before I go to sleep -- An amnesiac attempts to reconstruct her past by keeping a journal and discovers the dangerous inconsistencies in the stories of her husband and her secret doctor.
