ArtScapades Part 1: "Modern Beginnings"
ArtScapades is back with a six part lecture series on 20th Century Art.
On Monday, September 15, the series begins with a look at the beginnings of Modern Art, covering in depth, the first two great Modern Masters, Matisse and Picasso. With Post-Impressionism as the launching point, this lecture gives the history of factors that brought Modern Art into being including the growing rejection of the academic tradition in art, the search for a more naturalistic representation of the visual world, and the expression of a more subjective personal vision.
The series continues in October with European ‘isms’: From Symbolism to Surrealism as ArtScapades looks at the progression of Modern Art in Europe. Included in the lecture, among others, are works by Munch, Kandinsky, Miró, Dalí, and Chagall.
