Authors at Stage with M.J. Rose and Randy Susan Meyers
May 2013 – Meet M.J. Rose and Randy Susan Meyers, best-selling authors in their own right and co-authors of the recently published guide, What to Do Before Your Book Launch, on May 22 at 12 noon in the Lamb Room. Noontime author appearances are sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
International best-selling novelist M.J. Rose is a master of storytelling. She will speak about her latest release, Seduction which tells the story of a grieving woman and mythologist, Jac L’Etoile, who flees to the Isle of Jersey in the wake of personal losses. There she discovers more than the Druid ruins that lured her there – she discovers the lost letters of writer Victor Hugo detailing his séances and conversations with souls, including the likes of Galileo, Shakespeare and the Devil.
Critically acclaimed for her 2010 debut novel The Murderer’s Daughter, Randy Susan Meyers will introduce her latest novel, The Comfort of Lies. The richly layered story examines the complications of love, the fallout from infidelity, and the universal themes of motherhood, identity, trust, and forgiveness.
Both veterans of the publishing world, Meyers and Rose teamed up to produce their no-nonsense guide for writers, What to Do Before Your Book Launch. In it, the authors offer invaluable information on dealing with editors, agents, publishers and readers, and how to avoid some of the major pitfalls they have themselves encountered.
M.J. Rose is the international best-selling author of twelve novels and three non-fiction books on marketing. Her most recent novel The Book of Lost Fragrances was chosen as one of the 10 best in several categories including mystery and fantasy by Publishers' Weekly and amazon.com. She is a founding member and board member of International Thriller Writers and founder of the first marketing company for authors - Authorbuzz.com.
Rose's fiction and non-fiction has appeared in many magazines and reviews and she has been featured in The New York Times, Newsweek, Time, USA Today and on the Today Show and NPR radio. The television series PAST LIFE was based on Rose's novels in the Reincarnationist series. Rose lives in Connecticut with her husband the musician and composer, Doug Scofield.
Randy Susan Meyers was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, where she, in her own words, “quickly moved from playing with dolls to incessantly reading.” Before turning to writing Meyers worked as the assistant director of Common Purpose, where she worked with batterers, domestic violence victims, and at-risk youth impacted by family violence. It is no doubt that her experiences as director greatly influenced her darkly dramatic debut novel, The Murderer's Daughters.
In addition to her novels Meyers is the co-author of the non-fiction book Couples with Children. She currently lives in Boston, Massachusetts with her husband and two daughters. She teaches writing seminars at the Grub Street Writers' Center in Boston.
The event is co-sponsored by Elm Street Books. Lunch will be served and pre-registration is required.
