"Momentum" - Isadora Machado Lecuona
"Momentum" - An Exhibit of the Work of Artist Isadora Machado Lecuona, April 3 through May 8, 2011
New Canaan Library welcomes spring with a captivating exhibition, MOMENTUM, by Connecticut artist Isadora Machado Lecuona. The exhibit will run from April 3 through May 8, 2011, with an opening reception on Sunday, April 3rd, from 1 -3 PM in the Curtis Gallery.
An artist who works in many mediums, Isadora offers a glimpse of her rich, multicultural upbringing and experiences through the vivacity and diversity of her work. “My artwork is my mind translated in pencil, pen and paint,” states Isadora. “Emotions collected over time through observation and thoughts are the foundations for my work.”
A self-described “collage of cultures”, Isadora grew up in Westchester County, NY and graduated from State University of New York at Albany, yet her Latin American heritage is strongly apparent in her vibrant, emotion-provoking art. She states that her art “…. contains the ups and downs and the all arounds that come from experiencing immigration, language barriers, culture clashes…..”. Isadora is fluent in Spanish, English and German, having spent many summers studying in Germany, as well as at the German School of Guadalajara, México.
Isadora currently lives in South Norwalk, where she also has her studio. Her resume of exhibitions is extensive, including The Hudson River Museum, Festival of Trees Exhibit; Yonkers Public Library; and The New Canaan Society of the Arts: SPECTRUM–Juried Show and Members Show for seven years running. Isadora has been the recipient of numerous first prize awards, as well as Best in Show, SPECTRUM, The New Canaan Society of the Arts, The Betty Barker Gallery, 2007. In addition, she has been featured in many publications, among them The New York Times, “Celebrating Holidays and Hispanic Pride”, The Journal News (Westchester), New Canaan Advertiser, and The White Plains Watch, and was a guest speaker at Seattle’s People of Color Conference, speaking on the subject “Immigration and Art”.
The MOMENTUM exhibition is sponsored by the Art Committee of the Friends of the New Canaan Library. The curators for this show are Karen Ferguson and Arianne Kolb.
