There is a lot happening at the library this spring!
Friday May 30th at 7 pm is the Annual Books, Blues and BBQ library fund raiser. This is a fantastic event and there are still a few tickets left. Get in quick! Setting up for this event starts on Thursday, so library users will not be able to park at the library on Thursday afternoon and Friday.
Our Seed library has been providing inspiration and enjoyment to new and experienced gardeners for several weeks. Now is a great time to come in and get seeds to plant for this growing season. You may also like to attend our upcoming session to design your own container garden with the library’s own, Gwynne Pfeiffer.
Our regular book sale will be held once again in early June. Our fabulous book sale organizers: Karen and Gery would be delighted to have more volunteers to help at this event. If you would like to volunteer please sign up here. Besides organizing the regular book sale, these incredible volunteers have also set up a new online auction of collectible books. Check it out.
The refurbishment of our teen area - in the corner of the building, analogous to the corner of Main and Maple streets, is well underway (thanks to a generous donation from a benefactor) with new seating and new décor in place and more furniture soon to arrive. Take a look next time you are in the library.
Our MakerLab continues to be extremely well used, and we are delighted to be the recipients of a New Canaan Community Foundation grant to grow this incredibly popular place.
Look out for changes to our website during the month of June. A dedicated group of library staff have been working hard for the past 6 months to improve our existing website to make it more user-friendly and to provide ever better access to our collections, spaces and services. The team will be rolling out the changes during the month of June. We will provide more information about the anticipated changes for all our members in the next couple of weeks.
Our “pocket park” is almost ready – the grass is growing nicely, and we’ll soon have some lovely benches where New Canaanites can sit in the summer months and read a book al fresco!
Meanwhile, our fantastic team of librarians and support staff has been hard at work, with a constant focus on delivering the best possible service to all our library members. We are almost through our complete reorganization, which is designed to align our staffing with our goals for a consistently excellent level of service into the future. Behind the scenes, planning for more exciting programs, services and collections is ongoing as ever.
Keep an eye on our website and sign up for our weekly email so you don’t miss any of the high quality events at the library over the summer.
Lastly, Thank you! to all those who participated in our Feasibility study earlier in the year. We have now had a report back from CCS the consultants who undertook the study on our behalf and we’ll be sharing the results with all participants in the near future.
Reminder: during the summer months, the library is closed on Sundays. Our last open Sunday will be June 15.
