ArtScapades kicks off their spring lecture series at the New Canaan Library with a look at the influence of Japanese art and culture on French and American Impressionism. From how Japanese art came to the attention of the West, to the elements that found their way in to the art of the day, this lecture will give you a new way to look at old favorites.
ArtScapades will begin with a look at two of Japan’s master printmakers, Hokusai and Hiroshige, and will then move on to discuss their influence on well known names of the Impressionist movement including Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt, William Merritt Chase and Childe Hassam.
