New Canaan Library is pleased to announce that acclaimed journalist, documentary filmmaker, and multiple Peabody and Emmy Award-winning producer Chris Whipple will be the guest speaker for the Library’s 2017 William Attwood Memorial Lecture. The crucial, and ultimately powerful, role of any president’s chief of staff is compellingly explored and detailed in his recently released book The Gatekeepers: How the White House Chiefs of Staff Define Every Presidency.

 Registration is full.

Chris Whipple is an acclaimed writer, journalist, documentary filmmaker, and speaker. A multiple Peabody and Emmy Award-winning producer at CBS’s 60 Minutes and ABC’s Primetime, he is the chief executive officer of CCWHIP Productions. He has been published in Newsweek, LIFE, People, Politico, The Daily Beast, and American History.

The William Attwood Memorial Lecture honors longtime New Canaanite, William Attwood. Throughout the course of his career he helped define the time as well as shape the causes in which he believed. By enabling the Library to present distinguished speakers the annual lecture honors Bill’s memory and his lifetime interests in journalism, government, literature, and politics.

A light reception will precede the lecture at 6pm. Copies of The Gatekeepers will be available for purchase, provided by Elm Street Books.
