Join curator and architectural historian Esther da Costa Meyer for a lecture on her current exhibition Pierre Chareau: Modern Architecture and Design, now on view at The Jewish Museum, New York. The exhibition proposes a fresh look at the internationally recognized designer Pierre Chareau (1883 – 1950) and showcases rare examples of his furniture, lighting fixtures, and interiors, as well as designs for the extraordinary Maison de Verre, the glass house completed in Paris in 1932.
The lecture will begin at 7:00pm preceded by a light reception at 6:30pm.
Esther da Costa Meyer teaches modern and contemporary architecture at Princeton University. Da Costa Meyer’s work has a special emphasis on the interface between architecture and other arts such as music, painting and film. Her curatorial work includes the exhibitions Schoenberg, Kandinsky and the Blue Rider(The Jewish Museum, New York), Frank Gehry: On Line (Princeton University Art Museum), and at present, Pierre Chareau: Modern Architecture and Design (The Jewish Museum, New York).
Glass House Presents at New Canaan Library is an occasional series of talks and events about architecture, design, and Modernism in New Canaan and beyond. The series is collaboratively organized by the Glass House and New Canaan Library.
