[December 2012] –A new art exhibition by the artist Allison Hawkins will open at the Library on Sunday, January 6, 2013.  The exhibition, entitled “Wild Plains” will run from January 6 to February 10 in the H. Pelham Curtis Gallery, with an opening reception on Sunday, January 6 from 3 – 5 PM.  The reception is open to the public and all are invited to attend.

About her work the artist says, "The work in Wild Plains reflects a longing for a mysterious and amazing landscape that becomes an escape, a refuge. These are lands of open space, quiet air, and mystical entities.

I am drawn to a bleak feeling in the land, one of darkness and possible melancholy. Think about wind through the leaves at night.  However, there are points of comfort. These are found in the animals/creatures that move in and out of the drawings. They offer companionship, reciprocity, wisdom, and guidance.  The activities of these creatures also represent human relationships and in this capacity they serve a cathartic role. The animal portraits are personalities; they are engaged, emotive."
