Authors on Stage with Dennis Lehane
[August 2012]—New Canaan Library is pleased to announce that best-selling author Dennis Lehane will visit the Library on Monday, October 8 to introduce his latest novel, Live by Night. Lehane is the author of The New York Times best-seller and PEN/Winship award finalist, Mystic River, later made into an Academy Award-winning film of the same title, and Shutter Island, among others. The event, co-sponsored by Elm Street Book, will take place at 7:00 pm in the Adrian Lamb Room.
In Live by Night, Lehane returns to the gritty climate of Prohibition-era America that made one of his earlier novels, The Given Day (2009) such a blockbuster success. Blending edge-of-your-seat suspense with vivid period detail, award-winning author Dennis Lehane has created a masterful epic of this pivotal period in American history, told in the voice of a dangerous – yet charismatic – young gangster rising in power during the glamour and violence of the Roaring Twenties.
Dennis Lehane is the author of nine novels—including New York Times best-sellers Gone, Baby, Gone; Mystic River; Shutter Island; and The Given Day—as well as Coronado, a collection of short stories and a play. Lehane was born and raised in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts; he is a graduate of Eckerd College and the graduate program of writing, Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Lehane has taught writing at many colleges, including advanced fiction writing at Harvard University. He and his wife, Angie, divide their time between Boston and the Gulf Coast of Florida.
