The Journalist and the Archivist

Category: Speakers & Lecture Series
Location: Adrian Lamb Room

New Canaan Library is pleased and honored to host  a dialogue between NBC news journalist Chris Hansen and David Sean Ferriero, 10th Archivist of the United States.  Prior to his appointment as Archivist of the United States, Ferriero served as the Andrew W. Mellon Director of the New York Public Libraries, and in top positions at the libraries of MIT and Duke University. He is the first librarian to serve as Archivist for the United States.

The event will take place on Thursday, October 13th at 7:00 pm in the Library’s Adrian Lamb Room. At the conclusion of the presentation Ferriero will take questions from the audience.

David Ferriero will speak about topics meaningful to both the Library and the community. Included among the issues to be explored is the question of what technology and the age of digitization means to the Archives of the United States; its implications on re-classification, and the need to strike a balance between national security and a citizen’s access to information. Ferriero and Hansen will also discuss the future of libraries – from five years to 30 years in the future.
