Great Decisions: "Afghanistan: A First-Hand View From Kabul"

[October 2012] — New Canaan Library and Stamford-based World Affairs Forum, in conjunction with HSBC Bank USA, announces the second of two Great Decisions talks on the calendar fall. The event will take place on Monday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb Room. The Great Decisions series strives to offer informative talks on global issues, delivered by experts in their respective fields.

November's discussion is "Afghanistan: A First-Hand View From Kabul," led by Ken R. Furst. Ken is past president of the World Affairs Council of Western Massachusetts and serves on its Board of Directors, as well as currently serving on the Board of Directors of the World Affairs Councils of America and on the board of the New England Public Radio Foundation.

In March 2012 Ken was invited to join a 6-member delegation by Ambassador Ryan Crocker and the U.S. State Department to meet with over 65 Afghans in government and non-government positions, including a private meeting with President Hamid Karzai. The Ambassador encouraged the mission delegates to return to the United States to share their views of what they had seen and heard.

Subsequently Ken has reached audiences of 190,000 through the media and as a keynote speaker in Massachusetts, Connecticut and California, reaching nearly 1,000 attendees with insight from this first-hand view of Kabul. This was not Ken's first mission for the World Affairs Councils of America. In 2004 he was a guest of the Taiwanese Government for the Inauguration Ceremony of the President of Taiwan.WorldAffairs.jpg
Ken is President of Momentum Group, Inc., a firm that has worked with CEOs to plan and grow their businesses profitably through sales and marketing for over 25 years. He grew the Momentum Group to become one of the largest marketing firms in Western Massachusetts. In prior roles he developed team-building skills and the ability to counsel and engage all levels of employees in a wide range of companies from the Fortune 20 to startups.
Ken earned an MBA in marketing and International Business from the. University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Chicago, Illinois: and a B.A. in Economics from Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois.
