Report From the Executive Director, Alice Knapp

It’s the modern dilemma: How do we deliver “traditional” library services as we work to provide a virtual branch? How do our offerings resonate with our patrons? How do we connect with our patrons in a way that is meaningful? How do we help them connect with each other?

To answer these questions, we talked with our patrons and discovered that people liked our collections, but wanted more available online; they liked our programming, but wanted more; and they used the Library for quiet study, as well as for conversations with others. In response to this input, we redesigned and launched the library’s website, making it easier to find content, recommend titles, and provide access to programs and related information—an internet connection. The Library kept the traditional library programs and services and offered new and different ones; we focused on creating an intellectual hub and place of collaboration for New Canaan.

New Canaan Library benefits from its visionary board, a dedicated and creative staff, great volunteers, and Friends. Thank you for your patronage of the Library. Your gifts of money, time, talents, and resources make it the great place where we all connect, discover, and grow.
