The New Canaan Library is open to everyone. Patrons may use all print and computer resources on site, regardless of whether they have a library card. For hours and directions, click here.

Patrons need a valid Library card to borrow materials. New Canaan Library cards are issued to:

  • New Canaan residents with proof of residency, such as a driver's license, utlitiy bill, lease, insurance card, etc., showing both name and address.

  • People who work or attend school in New Canaan and live out of state with proof of employment/enrollment and identification.
  • People who own property in New Canaan and live out of state with a local property tax bill and identification.
  • Other out-of-state residents can purchase a family membership for an annual fee of $110.

If you live in another Connecticut town, a valid card issued by your hometown library serves as your Connecticard, which is accepted for borrowing materials at any of Connecticut's 163 public libraries, including New Canaan Library.
