Zoe, the music therapist protagonista, struggles to find happiness after a series of disappointments in her life. Not wanting to give away a part of the plot I can just say that Picoult wrote very briefly without going into any details about the incident that changed Zoe's life. Had she done that, it would have given the story a much needed boost. Predictable ending.
