Authors on Stage: J. A. Jance
With over 21 million books in print, author J.A. Jance returns to the Library to introduce her latest mystery-thriller, Deadly Stakes, on Monday, February 4 at 7:00 p.m.
J.A. Jance is the New York Times best-selling author of the Ali Reynolds series, the J.P. Beaumont series, the Joanna Brady series, and four interrelated Southwestern thrillers featuring the Walker family.
Jance graduated from the University of Arizona with a BA in English and Secondary Education and an M.Ed in Library Science. In 2000, she was awarded an honorary doctorate of Humane Letters. After teaching in high school English in Tucson for two years and working as a K-12 librarian on an Indian reservation for five, she went on to spend the next ten years in the life insurance industry before finally turning her hand to writing full time in the early 1980s. Deadly Stakes is her 44th published mystery. Born in South Dakota and brought up in Bisbee, Arizona, Jance and her husband live in Seattle, Washington and Tucson, Arizona.
About Deadly Stakes: After suffering heartbreak at the hands of a cyber-sociopath in Fatal Error, Lynn Martinson believes she has finally found happiness with new boyfriend Chip Ralston. But when Ralston’s gold-digging ex-wife is found murdered and abandoned in Arizona’s Camp Verde desert, things go awry.
Lynn’s mother engages Ali Reynolds to help them, which she does by uncovering clues connecting counterfeiters, antagonistic parents, grasping socialites, and Phoenix’s social elite. Although her friends in the police department grow increasingly irritated by her involvement with the cases, Ali ultimately solves the mystery of this ruthless killer in a game of deadly stakes.
