"Music and the Brain"
New Canaan-based Arts for Healing will hold an informative lecture for the community during Autism Awareness Month on the impact of music on health and well-being. Founder and clinical director Karen Nisenson will lead the event, which will be held on Wednesday, April 24 in the Library’s Adrian Lamb Room. A welcome reception will be held at 6:30 pm, with the presentation starting at 7:00 p.m.
The evening’s presentation will begin with an interactive musical demonstration, where volunteers from the audience can perform improvisational piano exercises as a demonstration of musical self expression. Lecture topics will range from music’s role in an individual’s development to the enhanced intellectual benefits of learning an instrument. Music and neurological function will be discussed as it relates to autism spectrum disorders and furthering emotional/social communication skills in children, teens and adults with special needs.
