Learn how to identify notes on the guitar and how to build basic chords and scales by applying simple music theory formulas. This workshop will start with learning the music alphabet, identifying the names of notes of the open strings, and continues on to explore the fretboard through its various positions. This class will give a beginner the tools to start learning how to play the guitar and give existing players a fresh approach to learning the instrument. This workshop can accommodate up to 20 participants.
Michael-Louis Smith is a jazz guitarist, composer, recording artist and educator. He received a Masters in Jazz Studies from the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College. Originally from Saratoga, NY, he now lives in New Canaan and performs regularly at clubs in New York and at festivals throughout the region.
