ArtScapades returns virtually to New Canaan Library to continue their 2019-2020 series The Road to Modern Art. In Fauvism and Beyond: From Color to Form, ArtScapades will look at the beginnings of Modern Art starting with the two artists who explored a new freedom and spontaneity in painting, characterized by vibrant color, and expressive brushstrokes, defining the influential avant-garde art movement.

This lecture will look at the lives and works of Henri Matisse and André Derain. Approximately a dozen works per artist are discussed including iconic works and those that illustrate significant trends and events in their lives and careers.

ROBIN HOFFMAN and JODI STIFFELMAN, of ArtScapades, began teaching art appreciation in 1998. They have presented at libraries and museums in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and Florida, and are returning for their twelfth season at New Canaan Library.
