In this lecture, ArtScapades will look at how artists included realism in their works, and how FDR’s New Deal affected the art world.  Works and lives of important artists of the period will be discussed including those of Thomas Hart Benton and his student Margot Peet, Grant Wood, Edna Reindel, and John Steuart Curry.

Robin Hoffman (left) and Jodi Stiffelman (right), of ArtScapades, began teaching art appreciation in 1998.  They have presented at libraries and museums in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and Florida, and are returning for their thirteenth season at New Canaan Library.
