Artscapades Presents: The Great Art Migration: From the South to Harlem

February 8, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Please join us for this live webinar on Monday, February 8th at 7:00pm EST

ArtScapades returns to New Canaan Library with the fifth lecture of their 2020-2021 season…via ZOOM! In this lecture, ArtScapades will look at the lives and works of four African American artists who were working around the turn of the 20th century.  Horace Pippin, Laura Wheeler Waring, Aaron Douglas and Archibald John Motley addressed the themes most pertinent to the era, including slavery, racism, the role of black people in World War I, and the shift of the African American art world to New York, specifically to Harlem.

Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman, of ArtScapades, began teaching art appreciation in 1998.  They have presented at libraries and museums in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and Florida, and are returning for their thirteenth season at New Canaan Library.
