Mike’s 20-year military career in the U.S. Navy SEALs culminated with his appointment as Commanding Officer of SEAL Team TWO, including ten months as the Commander of a 2,000-person Special Operations Task Force in southeastern Afghanistan. He served in both the Bush and Obama administrations.

Mike holds an M.A. in Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School and received his B.A. from Holy Cross College. His military decorations include the Bronze star for valor in combat, a Bronze Star, and the Defense Superior Service Medal from the White House.
Mike Hayes is Chief Digital Transformation Officer at VMware, leading the company’s worldwide operations in cloud computing and virtualization. Prior to VMware Mike worked at both Cognizant Technologies and Bridgewater Associates.

THE 1162 FOUNDATION
Mike Hayes founded The 1162 Foundation – named for the date President Kennedy commissioned the SEALs – to help families in the special operations community who have lost loved ones. Mike Hayes has personally pledged to donate a minimum of $250,000 from the book’s royalties to the foundation to help Gold Star families; already several mortgages have been paid off for Gold Star widows.
