Chocolate, Strawberry, and Vanilla: A History of American Ice Cream

Join us for this live webinar on Wednesday, April 20th at 7:00 PM EST.

Author Anne Cooper Funderburg will trace the surprising history of American ice cream, from the Colonial Era to the present. Among the topics she will explore are the different serving innovations, such as the sundae and the ice cream cone, and advances in making ice cream, including the invention of hand-cranked freezers. Anne will also discuss the evolution of retail from small confectionery shops to soda fountains, ice cream trucks, and today’s scoop shops. She will also look at the giant retailers, including Baskin-Robbins, Haagen Dazs, and Ben & Jerry’s.

Anne Cooper Funderburg writes books about American history, focusing on food and drink. She is the author of Sundae Best: A History of Soda Fountains and Chocolate, Strawberry, and Vanilla: A History of American Ice Cream. Her favorite flavor is mint chocolate chip.
