Did you know that food that gets thrown away doesn’t really go away, but comes back to us as a financial expense and in the form of serious public health and environmental liabilities? The food we dispose of not only wastes space and resources, but it also pollutes soil and ground water and accelerates climate change by producing methane, a greenhouse gas that traps heat and contributes to global warming. There are better, and healthier, ways of dealing with food scraps.

In partnership with Planet New Canaan and Town of New Canaan, we invite you to learn how New Canaan is breaking this cycle through the Food Scrap Recycling program at our town transfer station. Tune in to hear how this new program turns costly, dangerous trash into nutrient-rich compost that feeds the soil and cuts municipal spending. Speakers include Alice Ely, Master Gardener & Composter at Wakeman Farm in Westport, Nick Skeadas of Curbside Compost, and our own Tiger Mann, Director of Public Works. There will be ample time for Q & A following the panel presentation.
