Elder Scams: How to Protect Parents from Becoming Victims
May 21, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

New Canaan Library and Staying Put in New Canaan are pleased to present Necessary Conversations: talks throughout the year addressing issues related to adult children and their aging parents. Almost 3 billion dollars annually is lost through elder scams, which prey upon the most vulnerable of our population. At an average loss of $30,000 per elderly victim, the issue is one of major consequence. To address the problem, a panel discussion will offer cautionary tales, tips to avoid becoming a victim and additional information.
The panel is comprised of Officer Thomas Patten, New Canaan Police Department, Investigative Division; Pete Stair, Elder Fraud Prevention Advocate; Angela DeLeon, People’s United Bank, Crime Prevention Specialist; and Kathy Collins, Staying Put in New Canaan, MSW, Member Resources Director.
