Honor Juneteenth with Art: Social Justice Book Group (Hybrid) for Grades 5-8

Our Social Justice Book Group is honoring Juneteenth this month. Tweens and teens in grades 5-8, join us for a special session to learn the history and meaning of Juneteenth. Explore Juneteenth art, and create your own art that will be displayed at S.T.A.R.’s Juneteenth Community Celebration. (You don’t need to read anything in advance of this session–just come ready to get creative!)

This program is in partnership with LiveGirl, S.T.A.R, and New Canaan Library.

Founded in 2014, LiveGirl, Inc. is a Connecticut-based nonprofit organization that builds confident, inclusive leaders. Our mission is to prepare the next generation of diverse, brave female leaders with the skills, community, and connections so that ALL girls may thrive and make a positive impact on the world.

 

 

Stand Together Against Racism (S.T.A.R) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to is to equip residents of New Canaan, CT and neighboring communities with tools and resources to understand systemic racism—including its history, root causes and the structures that perpetuate it— and to proactively advocate for racial equity and bias elimination. We believe that by working together, we can drive transformative and sustainable social change in our community and beyond.

 

This program is only intended for youth in grades 5-8.
