HOT BOOK Discussion – American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins, hosted by Deborah Gordon, Library Trustee

April 14 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Location: Online

The reviews either praise or condemn Jeanine Cummins’ book American Dirt.  TV and magazine mogul Oprah Winfrey, her nation-wide book club’s book choice swallowed in controversy, is saying “it has become clear to me [……] that this selection has struck an emotional chord and created a need for a deeper, more substantive discussion.”  Sadly, pointed anger has been lobbed at the author and to book stores who would host her. Is that appropriate?

Why is this highly anticipated novel (about a mother and child fleeing to the US border to avoid a dangerous Mexican drug cartel) generating so much flak? Join us to discuss the phenomenon this book has become in the few short weeks since publication.
