Investigating Harmony: Part I – Constructing Basic chords
July 17, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Join a laid-back, fun, and highly educational discussion about music with local musician Michael-Louis Smith. The workshop will be accessible to musicians and non musicians and will cover elements of harmony from its finite parts to exploring chord progressions in familiar songs, and finally discussing the relationship between Harmony and Melody.
In part one of our discussion “Investigating Harmony“ participants will first learn about intervals, which are the the basic building blocks of triads (chords consisting of three notes). Then the workshop will explore how to use intervals to construct the four basic types of triads. Throughout the class examples will be given to demonstrate the sound of each interval and triad. Music Theory Worksheets: Sheet Music can be found HERE.
Michael-Louis Smith is a jazz guitarist, composer, recording artist and educator. He received a Masters in Jazz Studies from the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College. Originally from Saratoga, NY, he now lives in New Canaan and performs regularly at clubs in New York and at festivals throughout the region.
