MakerLab Gift series: Custom 3D Printed Keychains

December 16, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Location: MakerLab

For the final week of the MakerLab Gift series, you are invited to create something you couldn’t buy in stores: a custom-designed 3D printed keychain. You choose if you want to create your design digitally using software or by drawing using a marker and paper. Your keychain will then be printed on our 3D printers. Printing can take some time, so please note you may need to pick up your finished keychain at a later time. Keychain rings will be provided. Limit 2 keychains per participant.

This is a drop-in event. The project will take at least 15 minutes and up to an hour to complete. For ages 8-adult. Children ages 8-12 will need adult assistance.

This is part of a 3-part series featuring MakerLab projects that would make special gifts for family or friends.  On Saturday, December 2 we will be making light up holiday cards. On Saturday, December 9 we will be making jewelry pendants on the Cricut cutting machine.

Tinkercad is a free browser-based application created by Autocad. Autodesk’s Tinkercad is one of the most popular classroom tools for creating simple designs from scratch, quickly modifying existing designs. It’s a free online 3D design program that you can use in your web browser without downloading any software. Tinkercad is extremely intuitive and easy to use, and has built-in Lessons to help you learn the ropes, making it perfect for beginners.

The library’s MakerLab has three MakerBot printers and a Lulzbot Mini printer. Check the MakerLab calendar for upcoming training sessions for the MakerBot and Lulzbot printers.
