Michael-Louis Smith will honor jazz appreciation month by performing a program of music that will highlight compositions by jazz musicians and will include music by artists such as Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Wes Montgomery, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Herbie Hancock and others. This concert and discussion to be held in the Adrian Lamb room will feature world-class musicians from the region and offer an insight into this great music along with some surprises and hard swinging fun!

Guitarist and composer Michael-Louis Smith received his Masters in jazz studies from the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College and has over two decades of experience performing, recording, and educating. His latest LP “First Black Nation”,  along with previous releases and recent singles are available on iTunes, Amazon, and Spotify. Michael along with his wife Christina and four-year-old son Braven moved to New Canaan from Harlem, NYC in 2014. Since joining the community he has presented music workshops at the library, he and his band have donated their efforts to help the YWL of New Canaan raise funds for charity and he has performed  concerts at the Carriage Barn Arts Center in Waveny Park.  This will be Michael‘s first musical performance at the New Canaan library.
