“Muslims of America” is a portrait photo series created by Carlos Khalil Guzman, a New York based photographer. The photos are dedicated to capturing the diversity of the Muslim community in the United States and bringing to light the beauty and truthfulness of Islam while countering Islamophobia. This talk will explore the rise of Islamophobia and how it’s affecting the Muslim Community across the country. It will focus on the relationship between Islamophobia and other forms of oppression, and Carlos will talk about his experience traveling as a Muslim across the country and will touch upon the artistic aspect of the project. The talk will conclude with a Q&A and suggestions about tangible ways in which everyone can speak out against discrimination and stand up for justice and equality.

Carlos Khalil Guzman is a native New Yorker who took an interest in photography at an early age and who holds a degree in Commercial Photography. His “Muslims of America” series has been featured in NBC News, the Huffington Post, and other news publications. His simple yet sophisticated style captures moments that will last a lifetime while maintaining the humanity and natural beauty of his subjects.
