December 7, 1941, The Day of Infamy, indicated America’s official entrance into world war; a global conflict which would see to the demise of European colonialism and the advent of the Cold War.  December 1941 was the turning point of the conflict; and Pearl Harbor, together with the Soviet Army’s victory over Hitler’s hordes at Moscow, charted the course of the eventual defeat of the Axis powers. For after Japan’s devastating attack against the U.S. Pacific Fleet, America would join Stalin’s Russia to win man’s greatest conflict.

Mark Albertson is a historical research editor at Army Aviation magazine. He is also the historian for the Army Aviation Association of America. Mark is a long time member of the United States Naval Institute. He has authored several books, and currently teaches history at Norwalk Community College.
