October 8, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Location: Lamb Room

This beautifully illustrated interactive presentation by Marina Forbes will feature the history of Matryoshka (or “nesting doll”) making in Russia. Marina will examine the rich folk tradition and symbolism of the doll’s appearance, and the interesting link between doll making and other traditional Russian art forms. She will take participants on a journey to the 1900 World Fair in Paris that made Russian nested dolls and Fabergé eggs famous, then on to a virtual tour of a doll-making factory in rural Russia. Participants will then put what they have learned to the test, decorating their very own one-piece doll using paint and traditional Russian folk patterns.

All materials are provided. This program can accommodate up to 20 participants. At the end of the program, participants will have the option of buying multi-piece nesting doll kits to take home and paint.

This program is full. Please join the waitlist.
