November 14 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Location: Lamb Room

Female artists who had been struggling at the beginning of the twentieth century within the established male hierarchies of painting and sculpture recognized opportunities in the new medium of photography. Several of them went on to achieve the highest levels of recognition in the new fields of photo-journalism and later, fine art photography, including: Berenice Abbott, Margaret Bourke-White and Lisette Model. This visual lecture focuses on the contributions of pioneering female photographers in America and Europe, the first women photo-journalists of WWII as well as the bold women who helped create a new look in New York after the war.
