The Summer Writer’s Craft Shop – How to Interview for your book, article, memoir taught by Elon Green, author of Last Call: The True Story of Love, Lust and Murder in Queer NY.

June 12 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Location: Online

What is the 1st step, 2nd step, 3rd step, etc, of doing a successful interview?  How do you decide who to research, who is the right person to interview?  How do you get reluctant people to talk, what is “on the record, off the record?”  Laura Cavers, Readers Advisor at New Canaan Library, will ask Elon Green his process of the interview, what tactics did he employ to talk with police officers, detectives, and the family and friends of the victims to gather the information he needed to complete his astonishing true crime novel, Last Call: The True Story of Love, Lust and Murder in Queer New York.

Elon Green has written for the New York Times Magazine, The Awl, and New York.  He is anthologized in Sarah Weinman’s Unspeakable Acts.  He may also be found at Longform, where he has been an editor since 2011.  Elon Green lives in NY City; fun fact: Elon grew up in New Canaan, CT.

REGISTER HERE  (this is a part of the Summer Writer’s Craft Shop of 2021)

The Summer Writer’s Craft Shop at New Canaan Library is a new series of fun and engaging seminars that offer writing experiences for those interested in trying their hand at the writer’s craft. During June and July, writing instructor Julia Strayer will teach four Wednesday evening craft shops on important writing elements necessary for story creation. In addition, author Elon Green, Last Call: The True Story of Love, Lust and Murder in Queer NY, and award winning poet, Shanna Melton, will hold two separate Saturday morning programs to fill out the writer’s repertoire of skills.  Writers of all levels are welcome, and participants may register for all, or a few.
