
The Thirteenth Amendment: Abolition of Slavery

In partnership with The New Canaan Museum & Historical Society, join us for the third in a six-part lecture series on the origins of our constitutional rights. Reverend Doctor John L. Selders will speak on the Thirteenth Amendment followed by a screening of The 13th, a 2016 documentary by Ava DuVernay which explores the “intersection of race, justice, and mass incarceration in the United States”.
The Right Reverend Doctor John L. Selders, Jr. is an ordained minister serving in the United Church of Christ, the Organizing Pastor of Amistad United Church of Christ, Hartford, CT, former Associate College Chaplain and currently Assistant Dean of Students, Trinity College, Hartford, CT and one of the leaders of Moral Monday CT. For 15 years, he served Executive Director of Zezzo House (an 18 unit housing project) in Hartford, CT.
