Yale Science Communication Presents “Hidden Things: Pulling Back the Veil on the Universe”

February 17 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Location: Zoom Videoconference

Please join us for this live webinar on Thursday, February 17 at 7:00 pm EST

We welcome back Yale Science Communication for the winter-spring series! Throughout human history we have looked to the stars with wonder and curiosity. Stars and planets that are visible have inspired mythology and helped us navigate our own planet. But what exists beyond our small corner of the universe? How can we observe things that we can’t see? In February’s Science in the News talk, Yale scientists Jorge Torres, postdoctoral fellow in physics, and Tiger Lu, graduate student in astronomy, will explain how unseen objects can uncover hidden secrets of the universe. Scientists Torres and Lu will also speak about the possible existence of a new planet – ‘Planet 9’ – and about telescopes buried deep in polar ice that help us see beyond our galaxy.

Yale Science Communication is an organization of graduate students and postdoctoral individuals passionate about science communication, education, and advocacy. They deliver talks on current topics in science, ranging from the microbiome to the feasibility of a real-life Jurassic Park. Their goal is to make science fun and accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. and provide people with a better understanding of the science underpinning many of the complex issues in the news every day.
