This is a permanent, full time position (35 hours/week) including an occasional weekend or evening. This position supports the work of the entire Library but reports to the Manager of Public Services and is a member of the Public Services Team.


New Canaan Library is seeking a creative, flexible, and team-oriented communications professional to join our Public Services Team. This position is primarily responsible for the marketing and collateral creation in support of adult programs and services while also supporting other library strategic marketing needs.  If you are passionate about visual design and enjoy working on a creative, dynamic team, then this position may be for you.


  • Create marketing and promotional collateral in support of the Library programs and events in accordance with the Library’s branding guidelines
  • Manage internal room bookings and communication as it relates to programs and events
  • Assist the Programming Librarian and Public Relations Associate in providing consistently exceptional external communication regarding upcoming programs, classes and events
  • Serve as the primary contact for outside groups wishing to book Library space for meetings and events. Manage the room reservations accordingly and liaise with Accounting for billing as necessary.
  • Flexible support at programs and events as needed. Duties may include registration, check-in, hosting or food service
  • Rapid response to communication with presenters , vendors and community groups via email and telephone
  • Office supply ordering for all Library departments. In coordination with the Manager of Public Services, effectively manage and track the office supply budget
  • Research and administrative support  for Manager of Public Services and Executive Director
  • Serve on Library and program committees as needed
  • Participate in cross departmental project teams as required


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to draft clear and concise promotional material in digital and print medium
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and to perform under pressure or with short deadlines
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office with specific emphasis on Publisher.  Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or Lightroom a plus.
  • Motivated, confident, and able to work without direct supervision
  • Agile, able to adapt easily to a changing environment and work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Employs excellent judgement and confidentiality
  • Basic understanding of finance and business processes




  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required
  • Previous creative design or marketing experience highly desirable
