Welcome back to the Library! We are pleased to let you know that the Library has re-opened and we look forward to seeing you once again. We have completed our Covid-19 certification and are taking all measures to ensure everyone’s safety. Masks are required at all times, and we ask that you observe distancing. Please visit our reopening page for full details.

How can I borrow items?

The library is open for Adult, Teen, and DVD browsing and borrowing via self-service checkout only. The Children’s Library is open for browsing by appointment with limited walk-in availability. You can continue to place a hold on items through our online catalog. Please limit your requests to no more than 6 items per day. Holds pickup is now inside the building. You MUST bring your Library Card or Library Card number to check out new materials using our self-service checkout machines. The hours for browsing and holds pickup are as follows:

  • Monday from 9am-7pm
  • Tuesday through Friday 9am-5pm
  • Saturday from 9am-1pm

Please remember that our Digital Library is always open!

How can I return my books?

Please return your items to our outdoor returns bin, which is open 24 hours.

We are currently quarantining all returned items, so they will remain on your account for several days after you return them. No fines will accrue for that period.

What are you doing about sanitizing the Library and the items being returned?

We will continue to deep clean the Library building. All returned items are quarantined before they are checked in. All staff members in the building wear masks and follow all guidelines put forward by state and local health authorities.

Can I request an InterLibrary Loan (ILL)?

Inter-Library Loans depend on other institutions, so our access to other materials is limited. While you may place an ILL request, it may take much longer than usual or may not be fulfilled.

Can I donate books and DVDs to the Library?

The Library no longer accepts book or DVD donations.  Please contact Goodwill or other local organizations to donate your used items.

I don’t have a Library Card! Can I get one?

Yes!  New Canaan residents may fill out the online card request form HERE.
