The Children’s Room celebrates National Novel Writing Month with a fun story challenge!
Students in grades 2-4 are invited to compose their most ‘Out of This World’ short story and enter to win a gift card to Elm Street Books! Entries should be up to 250 words or 1 page typed. All entries should be turned in at the Children’s Desk no later than 8:00 PM on Nov. 26th. Winning entries will be announced and read aloud at our ‘Out of this World Party’ on Thursday, December 5th.

If you cannot think of any ideas, here are some prompts:
- Something in the refrigerator was making a strange noise, so I opened the door and…

- A person finds themselves in a new world where they never thought….
- Weekend adventurers explore a new world and can’t find their way out again. Then they encounter something terrible…
- The most amazing thing happened….
Our biggest tip: BE CREATIVE!
Official Rules
- Students in grades 2-4
- Up to 250 words or 1 page typed
- Clearly title your story at the top of the page
- DO NOT PUT YOUR NAME ON YOUR COMPLETED STORY
- Instead: Attach the entry form to your story
- Submit by November 26th to the Children’s Service Desk
- One entry per person
- Grown-ups may help with typing but nothing else
- Winner(s) receive a Gift Certificate to Elm Street Books
- Depending on entry numbers, multiple winners may be selected
- Winners will be announced at our Out of this World Book Party! Thursday, December 5th @ 3 PM. Please register for the Party online
