New Canaan Library will host the Lit Lunch @ Night virtual program featuring Alice Hoffman on Zoom, and we want to ensure that everyone has a seamless viewing experience. We have laid out several recommendations below for viewing on a smart device or television, and we will be holding three drop-in virtual tech help sessions the week before the live program to answer any questions ticket holders may have.

You can access Zoom on a smartphone or tablet by downloading the Zoom app onto your device from the App store or Play store. You can also access Zoom on a laptop or desktop computer by clicking on the Zoom link that will be emailed to you a few weeks before the live event, where you will be automatically directed to watch the Zoom program in a web browser ( There is also a desktop app version of Zoom that you can download from Zoom’s website if that is your preference.

In order to watch the virtual program on your television, New Canaan Library recommends the following setup options.

  1. HDMI CORDBegin by accessing Zoom on a portable laptop, then plug your laptop into your TV using an HDMI cord. Please note: if you plug your cord into “HDMI 1” on your TV, then you need to change the input/HDMI with your TV remote to make sure you are on HDMI 1.
  2. CHROMECAST: Please refer to these Google instructions to cast from a laptop to TV using a Chromecast device.
  3. AIRPLAY: Please refer to these Apple instructions to cast from an apple device to a TV using Apple Airplay.
  4. OTHER SMART TV SETUPS: Search for your smart TV brand online and look to see what the company recommends in terms of casting from a laptop to a television. An example Google search would be “casting from laptop to Samsung smart TV.”

New Canaan Library will be lending HDMI cords to ticket holders who need them. A form will go out asking you if you need an HDMI cord in early October. Since the list above is not exhaustive, we have organized the following tech help sessions where you can hop on for a few minutes to test your connection/tech setup and ask our Digital Services Librarian questions
