Event Details

Join us as Carey Mack Weber, the executive director of the Fairfield University Art Museum presents a talk about Arthur Szyk. Arthur Szyk was an unparalleled artist and illuminator, a proud son of Poland, and a self-described "soldier in art" who used his pen and brush to advocate for religious tolerance, racial equality and human dignity. Active in the years leading up to World War II and during the Holocaust, Szyk became one of America's most celebrated political artists for his powerful artistic and social contributions against fascism. Arthur Szyk lived in New Canaan.

Carey Weber will speak about the history of the exhibition, highlight select works that were created during Szyk’s time as a New Canaan resident, and discuss his artistic legacy. This event is presented in partnership with the Fairfield University Art Museum.
