Event Details

Women have long been a force in filmmaking, but a male-dominated industry often suppressed their talents. Pioneers like Alice Guy-Blaché and Lois Weber paved the way, yet female directors remained sidelined until feminism's rise in the late '60s. Only then did filmmakers like Penny Marshall, Kathryn Bigelow, Sofia Coppola, and Jane Campion break into the mainstream and earn Academy Awards. Through interviews and film clips, we’ll explore the challenges women have faced and their artistic achievements over the years.

About the Presenter: Greg Blank is a New York-based filmmaker and film historian with over 15 years of experience as a producer, director, cinematographer, and editor.  He has lectured on film and media studies and other topics for over five years. He is an award-winning producer of television and documentaries and has developed and produced over 60 lecture programs for public and private clients, colleges, continuing education programs, and libraries around the country.
