Program Description

Event Details

Join us for a hands-on workshop in the MakerLab exploring concepts of machine learning and visual AI.  Antonia Kolb, the founder of the DETICKT IT app, will share her inspiration and process for creating the app then lead us through a hands-on activity exploring real-world applications of machine learning.  We will be using Google Colab, a free program that allows us to train models and coding using Python.  Library laptops and Google logins will be available, but feel free to use your own laptop or login to save your work for further exploration.  For teens in grades 6-12.

About the Instructor
Antonia Kolb is a high school senior at King School in Stamford, CT. She is also the founder and creator of DETICKT IT, an app on the App Store that quickly identifies ticks and provides a tick risk analysis.  Her app has won numerous awards including first place at the Connecticut Science and Engineering Fair (CSEF) in the Pfizer Computational Biology and Bioinformatics category. She recently won the Congressional App Challenge for CT-04 (Representative Jim Himes) and is published in the Columbia Junior Science Journal. She is currently interning at Yale University’s Energy Science Institute, working on scalable applications of photocatalysis to help solve environmental issues such as methane emissions and oil spills.
