Three female African-American mathematicians play a pivotal role in astronaut John Glenn's launch into orbit, even as they encounter racial and gender discrimination at work. 

A huge commercial and critical success, Hidden Figures is the 2016 film loosely based on the book by Margot Lee Shetterly about three Black mathematicians: Katherine Goble (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer), and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae), who worked at NASA during the Space Race.
