Three female African-American mathematicians play a pivotal role in astronaut John Glenn's launch into orbit, even as they encounter racial and gender discrimination at work.
A huge commercial and critical success, Hidden Figures is the 2016 film loosely based on the book by Margot Lee Shetterly about three Black mathematicians: Katherine Goble (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer), and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae), who worked at NASA during the Space Race. Other stars include Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge, and Glen Powell.
