Program Description

Event Details

Join legendary picturebook author/illustrator Jan Brett as she launches her book signing tour for her new picturebook, Alice in a Winter Wonderland! This event is hosted by New Canaan Library and Elm Street Books. Before the book signing Jan Brett will do a 20 minute drawing illustration and presentation.

Since space is limited, please register each indivdual below so we know how many people to expect. While general admission to Jan Brett's book presentation is free, entrance to the signing line requires the purchase of Alice in a Winter Wonderland from Elm Street Books. Children must be accompanied by at least one adult in the signing line. Jan will sign at least one book per group in line and more if possible. For any extra books that are not able to be signed by Jan we have signed bookplates that are die-cut and beautifully designed with full-color Jan Brett artwork. We will be distributing signing line wrist bands to adults during event book pick-up.

Registration for this event opens October 1st at 8:00 AM.

FAQ:

Can I bring books from home for Jan Brett to sign?

  • Usually the expected attendance at events does not allow for books from home to be signed. However, we are happy to provide as many signed bookplates as you need.

Can I have multiple copies of Alice in a Winter Wonderland signed at my turn in line?

  • Crowd size dictates how many books can be signed. Often this only allows one book per group, however, we encourage you to make strategic signing line plans with your friends. Of course, we have signed bookplates for the rest of your purchases.

How can I get a good spot in the signing line?

  • When you pick-up your pre-purchased book at the event, Elm Street Books will give you a wrist band with a number for the signing line. Numbers will be given out based on the order in which books are picked-up on the day of the event, not in the order which they were ordered. New Canaan Library has crafts/ activities planned to keep families busy while they wait their turn.

I can’t wait for two hours! What do I do?

  • We have beautifully designed signed Jan Brett bookplates for anyone not able to join the line.

Can I order a book to be signed even if I don’t attend the event?

  • Crowd size will determine whether there is time for Jan to sign pre-ordered books for customers who are not able to attend the event. If we run out of time, we promise to give you as many beautiful signed bookplates as you need for your order.

Jan Brett

Bio: Jan Brett lives in a seacoast town in Massachusetts close to where she grew up. During the summer, her family moves to a home in the Berkshire Hills. She is a New York Times #1 bestselling author/illustrator, one of America’s most popular, with over 44 million books in print, and has brought to life lovable characters and imaginary backdrops for children for more than 40 years. Her illustrations are adored for their classic beauty and vibrant, life-like images of animals, landscapes, and flourishes from cultures around the world.

As a child, Jan Brett decided to be an illustrator and spent many hours reading and drawing. She says, “I remember the special quiet of rainy days, when I felt that I could enter the pages of my beautiful picture books.  Now I try to recreate that feeling of believing that the imaginary place I’m drawing really exists. The detail in my work helps to convince me, and I hope others as well, that such places might be real.”

While Jan is most known for her children’s books, she is also an award-winning breeder of ornamental fowl (fancy chickens!).  Some of her best book ideas come from other interests including extensive travel and exploration of the natural world, marathon training, and while listening to the Boston Symphony Orchestra, where her husband is a musician.
