Get ready for an afternoon filled with laughter and fun as authors Dan Gutman and Alan Katz join us for a hilarious Joke-Off at the library! The authors will talk about their books and writing process, followed by a Joke-Off, Q&A and book signing. 

Dan Gutman is the beloved author of the My Weird School series, The Genius Files, and many other stories that make kids laugh out loud while they read. His unique blend of humor and adventure has earned him a spot as one of the top writers for young readers. Alan Katz is the author of the Society of Substitutes series and The Funniest Joke Book Ever, a book packed with silly jokes that kids adore. His funny and imaginative stories encourage laughter while fostering a love for reading and creativity.

Alan Katz

Alan Katz has written 50+ highly acclaimed books for young readers. A frequent presenter at regional and national conferences/festivals, he’s received numerous state awards for his titles, notably Take Me Out of the Bathtub and Other Silly Dilly Songs, Got Your Nose!, OOPS!, Stinky Thinking, and Are You Quite Polite? Alan is the co-author (with the Today Show’s Dylan Dreyer) of Misty the Cloud, an October 2021 New York Times Bestseller. His other recent titles include Elf Academy: Trouble in Toyland, Really Stupid Stories for Really Smart Kids, three Lieographies (Babe Ruth, Amelia Earhart and Thomas Edison), and the first five books in the Society of Substitutes series.

Alan is also a six-time Emmy-nominated writer for TV series including The Rosie O’Donnell Show, The Tony Danza Show, several Nickelodeon and PBS Kids series, animated shows Pinkalicious, Taz-Mania and Goof Troop, and network specials including the Grammy Awards, the Tony Awards and A Rosie Christmas.

Dan Gutman

Dan Gutman was born in a log cabin in Illinois and used to write by candlelight with a piece of chalk on a shovel.  Oh, wait.  That was Abraham Lincoln.  

Actually, Dan has written 190 books for beginning readers (Rappy the Raptor), young readers (My Weird School), and advanced readers (The Genius Files, Houdini and Me).  Dan lives in New York City.  You can visit his web site (www.dangutman.com) and follow him on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
