Program Description

Event Details

Join Fairfield Programming Association (FPA) for a 9-week computer programming course introducing Python. This is an introductory course and will focus on the basics. It is ideal for those with little to no coding experience. We will start with Python basics and continue to develop our coding skills over the session so be sure you can attend all the sessions. Over the the course we will start with data types and work our way through to if/else statements and finish the course with loops. We will do fun in-class activities to master our learning. This session is led by the St. Luke’s School chapter of FPA.

We will meet Saturdays January 20-March 16.  This course is for students in grades 4-7.  Library laptops will be available for use, but you are welcome to bring you own computer: Windows, Mac and Chromebooks will all work.  We will be using the website Google CoLab for our coding environment. If you login with your own Google account, you can keep practicing between sessions but we will have logins available for use during the class.

About FPA
The Fairfield Programming Association (FPA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) based in Fairfield county. The mission of the FPA is to provide extensive educational opportunities to children in 4th grade through middle school. The FPA believes that focusing on young students allows for a different kind of impact on the next generation than a program focusing on older students may have. One of our flagship programs, the charter program, aims to connect as many high schools and colleges as possible with elementary schools to educate the next generation about the wonders of computer science. The St. Luke's School charter will be running classes during October and November on Thursday @ 4:15pm - 5:15pm at the New Canaan Library. The mission of our offered classes is to introduce a feeling of passion for the field of computer science which will persist through each student’s academic career.
